Gemini visibility: audit sources and improve business information
By the MentionedOn team
How to check business discovery, citations, and agent tasks on individual platforms.
Start a Gemini visibility audit by identifying the exact surface you are testing. Gemini Apps, Google AI Overviews, and AI Mode are not interchangeable reports. Use a fixed buyer question and inspect the source links that the actual response provides.
What the platform documents
Google says Gemini Apps may show sources and related links, but not every response includes them. Its guidance distinguishes related evidence from a guarantee that the response is correct. Missing links should be recorded as missing, not reconstructed from a guess. Google's Gemini sources guidance.
Make business facts internally consistent
Choose one authoritative page for each service or product. Keep the business name, location, service area, contact path, and material limits consistent with the rest of your public presence. Where availability changes, explain how it is confirmed rather than publishing a permanent claim that everything is available.
Use text for essential facts and keep structured data consistent with what visitors can read. A technical markup change cannot substantiate a service, credential, or location that does not exist. Fix the underlying fact first.
Inspect related sources carefully
Save the full response, its source links, and the question that produced it. For each important claim, record whether a cited page supports it. A related page is not always evidence for every sentence in the answer.
If a response misstates your offer, identify the stale or ambiguous source you can actually verify. Correct that source or your own public explanation. Avoid publishing many variations of the same correction, which makes the authoritative version harder for readers to identify.
Keep Google Search AI measurements distinct
Google's Search documentation says AI Overviews and AI Mode use the usual SEO foundations and require a supporting page to be indexed and eligible for a search snippet. That is guidance for Google Search, not a promised Gemini Apps ranking method.
Search Console includes activity from those Search AI features in its Web performance reporting. Do not label all Google organic visits as Gemini referrals, or infer a Gemini recommendation from a Search Console impression. Record the measurement source next to every number.
Repeat one realistic buyer task
Specify the user's location, service constraints, and language. Keep branded fact checks separate from unbranded recommendations. Record connected-app context where it can affect the answer, and mark unavailable checks separately from completed answers without a mention.
Use MentionedOn's supported monitoring as one evidence source, with the actual model and method retained. Supplement with manual consumer-app observations when that is the experience your customers use. A small sample can identify an incorrect fact without proving a portfolio-wide visibility trend.
For Google Search specifically, see Google Search guidance on AI features. This is distinct from the Gemini app.
A repeatable starting prompt
Compare [service category] options in [location] for [constraints]. Explain the fit and unresolved details, and include public sources where available. Do not make a booking.
Adapt the bracketed fields once, then keep the wording stable for comparable checks.
Are Gemini visibility and Google AI Overview rankings the same?
No. Record the exact product and result surface. A Gemini response, a Google Search AI Overview, and an AI Mode answer can provide different evidence and should not be combined as one rank.
Record the evidence
Use the AI visibility audit worksheet to preserve the question, answer, sources, and next edit. See all platform guides for differences in the measurement method.
