Your rates beat the big banks.
Younger members still aren't finding you.
Someone who just moved to town, or is opening a first checking account, now asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity where to bank. The assistant names two or three places. If your credit union isn't one of them, or the answer says they can't join, the choice is made before they ever see your rate sheet.
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: up to 6 priority questions on paid scans. Results may be reused for up to 7 days; availability varies by question.
I just moved to Spokane and I'm 26. Where should I open a checking account and maybe get a car loan?
Corvane National Bank
large branch network and a highly rated mobile app
Northbank Commons Credit Union
open to anyone who lives or works in the county, competitive auto loans
Cinder Hill Credit Union

What credit union marketing, growth and member-experience leaders are seeing
Better rates, flat under-35 growth
Your auto loan and share certificate rates beat the national banks, and your average member age keeps creeping up anyway. The people you most need never compared you, because you were not on the list they started from.
"I didn't know I could join"
Front-line staff hear it every week. People assume a credit union is for one employer or one profession, even when your charter has covered the whole county for years.
New accounts arrive through the dealer, not your door
Indirect lending keeps volume up, but those borrowers never chose you. Direct members who pick you on purpose, and bring their checking account with them, are harder to find.
Callers quote things you never said
A caller asks about a rate you retired months ago, or a branch you merged into another. They read it somewhere, and it was not your website.
The common thread: the shortlist now forms inside an AI answer, before anyone visits your site, calls, or fills in a form. Your name is either in that answer or it is not.
What you're already paying for, and where it stops
None of this is wasted. Each one does its job. None of them was built to put your name in an AI answer.
Rate ads and certificate specials
An ad runs where it is bought. An AI answer is written from pages, listings and articles the assistant can read, and a rate inside a banner image or a paid placement is not something it quotes back.
An SEO agency and branch location pages
Ranking for "credit union near me" earns a spot in a list of links. An assistant writes one answer with two or three names, and it leans on sources that say in plain words who you serve. A strong Google position does not guarantee a mention.
Paid social aimed at people under 35
Social ads reach people while they scroll. The person asking an assistant where to open a first account is not scrolling, and the assistant never sees your ad.
"Best credit union" roundups and comparison sites
Roundups tend to feature institutions anyone in the country can join. A community charter that serves three counties can be the right answer locally and still be missing from the lists an assistant reads.
What a missed decision is worth
A member who never hears your name does not show up in any report. Put your own numbers in to size what that costs over the years they would have stayed.
Example numbers. Replace them with yours.
Lifetime revenue from one year of missed members
$98,000
per member per year × years they stay × missed per year
Take last year's net interest and fee income from members who joined in the past three years and divide by the number of those members; your finance team may already track it as revenue per member.

What AI gets wrong about credit unions
Things to check in the answers about you. The evidence explorer keeps the full text of every answer, so your team can read exactly what was said.
Eligibility described too narrowly
Check whether AI says you must work for one employer to join. Federal charters come in three kinds (single common bond, multiple common bond, and community), many credit unions have changed charter over the years, and old pages about the original sponsor can outlive the change.
Family eligibility left out
Most credit unions let members' families join. Check whether the answer mentions that, because "my parents are members" is one of the easiest ways a first-time member qualifies.
Insurance explained wrong
Check whether AI suggests your deposits are less protected than at a bank. Federally insured credit unions carry NCUA share insurance at the same standard coverage level as FDIC insurance, backed by the full faith and credit of the United States.
Rates from an old page or someone else's list
Rates posted as images or inside PDFs are hard for an assistant to read, so it may quote a figure from an old roundup instead. Check whether the rates in the answer match what you offer today.
Old names, merged branches, stale hours
After a merger, a rename, or a branch consolidation, check whether AI still uses the old name, sends people to a closed branch, or lists hours you changed.
Your first 30 days
Steps your own team can take, in this order. Monitoring shows which of them moved the answer.
Write your eligibility in one plain sentence, on one page
For example: "Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in these counties can join, plus family members of current members." Put it in text (not an image) on a page called Who can join, and link to it from your homepage and every product page.
Publish rates as text, with an as-of date
Move rate tables out of images and PDFs into an HTML table that states the APY and the date it was last updated. It goes through the same compliance review as your current rate sheet; only the format changes.
Answer the three questions new members actually ask
One clear page each for opening a first checking account, getting a first auto loan, and joining after a move. Short, specific, in the words a 25-year-old would type, with the next step at the bottom.
Fix the facts assistants copy
Update every branch listing (hours, services, holiday hours), retire or redirect pages for closed branches, and make sure your About page states your current name, any past names, and your charter area in plain text.
Measure the member questions, then re-check
Run the free scan today, track the questions future members ask in each market you serve, and read the recorded answers. Two to four weeks after each change, look at which answers moved and who is still named instead of you.
The plan that fits most credit unions
Growth
$399/mo
Up to 5 locations or brands, 120 tracked questions each.
Most credit unions serve several branch markets, and the answer in one county can look nothing like the next. Growth tracks several locations or brands on one account, so you can watch the markets where membership growth matters most. If your team would rather hand off the work, Concierge does it for you and drafts for your compliance review.
A mention is not a signed member. We measure whether and how you are named in sampled AI answers, show who is named instead, and rank the fixes. We do not promise placements.
Questions credit union marketing, growth and member-experience leaders ask us
Our members are loyal. Why does this matter to us?+
Loyalty keeps the members you already have. This is about the ones you don't have yet: someone new to town, or opening a first account, who asks an assistant where to bank before they visit any branch. They have no loyalty to anyone yet, and the answer decides who they compare.
We already rank well on Google for "credit union near me."+
Good, keep it. A Google ranking and an AI answer draw on overlapping sources but are not the same thing, and plenty of institutions show up in one and not the other. The free scan shows whether the assistants name you for the same questions, so you are not guessing.
Compliance won't let us publish much.+
Most of the fixes are facts you already publish, in a format an assistant can read: eligibility in plain text, rates as a dated HTML table instead of an image, correct branch hours. Nothing here requires new claims. Anything we draft is a draft for your compliance team.
Can you tell us when ChatGPT quotes our rates wrong?+
We record the full text of every answer, so your team can read exactly what each assistant said about your rates, eligibility and branches, including anything wrong. There is no automated rate checker; a person on your team compares the recorded answer to your current rate sheet.
Do you need access to member data or our core?+
No. Monitoring only asks public AI assistants the questions a prospective member would ask and records the answers. We never see member data, account data, or anything behind your login.
Can you guarantee we'll be recommended?+
No, and be wary of anyone who does. The assistants decide their own answers. We measure whether and how you are named in sampled answers, show who is named instead, and give you a ranked list of fixes. You can see which changes moved the answer.
