From a Google AI Overview to a Sacramento plumber’s estimate form

Google’s AI Overview for one Sacramento water heater question linked to guides on what to ask before replacing a unit. One link led to a local plumber’s article where we could also open a blank estimate form.

What we searched

what should I ask a plumber before replacing a water heater in Sacramento

We searched Google in English while signed out on November 6, 2026. Sacramento was in the query and we left the browser’s location settings alone. An AI Overview appeared. We opened three links directly from that answer and read the destination pages.

What the three linked pages supplied

We separately checked the city’s guidance. It lists residential water heater changeouts under minor permits. A customer can confirm which building department covers their address and ask the installer who handles the permit and inspection. City of Sacramento minor permits.

How far the browser could get

On the same Super Brothers article, we clicked Get Estimate and reached a blank Online Estimate dialog with name and ZIP code fields. The browser also detected WebMCP, a way for a site to describe its form to a compatible browser agent. We called the site’s read-only quote requirements tool to see what the request would require.

  • The tool described a single desktop form and a mobile flow covering service, job details, photos, contact, and review.
  • It listed name, email, phone, and ZIP code as required, and job notes and photos as optional in the mobile flow.
  • It reported mobile service selection and consent. The visitor would choose whether to add photos, review the information, handle the acknowledgment where shown, and decide whether to request an estimate.

A ZIP code in the correct format still needs a service-area check. We stopped at the blank form, with no contact details entered and no request submitted.

What to put on a water heater replacement page

Open with the decisions a homeowner needs to make. Explain what determines the recommended size and fuel, which parts of the job the written quote covers, and what might cost extra. Say who coordinates permits and inspections for the areas you actually serve, and distinguish equipment coverage from your workmanship warranty. Put the estimate link next to those answers and tell customers what they’ll need to have ready before they open the form.

Try the same check on your own site. Save the exact query and the Overview’s links, then walk from a linked page to the blank form. Record the last step you could reach and any details the customer still has to confirm. Local AI visibility checklist.

What this capture measures

This is one Overview and one form walkthrough. The source list shows three links we followed and can vary in another search. We recorded link presence and what the site exposed before submission. Google’s reasons for choosing links, any effect of WebMCP, actual service availability, and completed customer requests are outside the scope of this observation.
