Eight plumbing markets, two AI assistants, different shortlists
In a same-trade snapshot of eight public leaderboards, the most-mentioned plumber appeared in anywhere from 5 to 10 of 10 sampled AI answers, depending on the city.
How we checked
We took the first eight cities shown under Plumbers in the public leaderboard index, in the order displayed on September 25, 2026. Each board displayed “Last run September 17.” The pages omit the year; we infer 2026 from the site’s data-report window current on our review date.
For each city, MentionedOn asked five generated buyer-intent questions of ChatGPT and Gemini, giving 10 answers per board. We recorded the highest published mention count and every business tied at that count. This review covers eight stored boards and 80 sampled answers; we did not run new queries.

Each city name opens its public source board. The downloadable snapshot below preserves the observed counts if a live board refreshes.

What stood out
In three of eight cities, one business appeared in at least 9 of 10 sampled answers: Austin had a 10-of-10 leader, while San Antonio and Denver each had a 9-of-10 leader. In the other five cities, no business appeared in more than 5 of 10 answers. First place was shared by three businesses in San Diego, four in Dallas, and three in Houston.
The contrast appears even within Texas: Austin had one 10-of-10 leader; Dallas had four 5-of-10 co-leaders under the same sampling method. These counts show variation across these eight city boards. They do not explain why any business appeared.
Limits of this snapshot
The counts describe a fixed set of generated questions, not all local searches or business quality. The public boards combine ChatGPT and Gemini counts, so they do not identify which assistant named a business. Answers can vary between runs, and these boards cannot establish whether any mention led to a customer. Read the full measurement methodology for the model and measurement limits.
