Citation Rate
Citation rate — Citation rate is the share of AI answers that link to or explicitly source your website when they mention you — the AI-era equivalent of earning a backlink inside the answer.
Some assistants (notably Perplexity and Google's AI surfaces) show their sources. A citation is stronger than a bare mention: it sends referral traffic and signals to the model that you are an authority worth drawing from again.
Citation rate and mention rate move together but aren't the same. You can be named without being cited (the model 'knows' you from training) or cited without a glowing mention. Tracking both tells you whether to work on being known or on being linkable.
