Does ChatGPT recommend your business?
Check in about 30 seconds. We ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity the questions your customers actually ask, then show you whether you are in the answer. Free, no signup.
Why you should check, even if your Google rankings are fine
A growing share of your customers no longer start with a search results page. They ask an AI assistant "who is the best plumber near me" or "which dentist should I go to in my city" and get back two or three business names with a confident reason for each. There is no page two of an AI answer. You are either one of those names or you are not in the conversation at all, and most owners have no idea which one is true for them.
The uncomfortable part: ranking well on Google does not mean you appear in ChatGPT's answer. The assistants synthesize their shortlists from a different mix of signals, so plenty of businesses with strong traditional SEO are invisible in AI answers while a lesser-known competitor gets every recommendation.
Why asking ChatGPT yourself is not a real check
The obvious move is to open ChatGPT and ask about your own business. The problem is that your account is primed: your chat history, saved context, and location can nudge the model toward mentioning you, giving you a false sense of security. A single phrasing is also just one draw. Customers ask the same question dozens of ways, and each assistant answers differently.
A meaningful check has to be unprimed and multi-model: ask the way a stranger would, across the assistants your customers actually use, with the buyer-intent phrasings that matter in your trade. That is exactly what the checker above does, and it also records how each assistant describes you and which competitors it names instead of you.
What affects whether ChatGPT mentions you
AI assistants do not take payment for recommendations and there is no submission form. They build their shortlists from the evidence they can see:
- Google Business Profile completeness. Categories, services, hours, photos, and Q&A are the single richest local signal the models' sources draw on.
- Review volume, recency, and specifics. Steady recent reviews that mention actual services beat a large but stale pile.
- Consistent name, address, and phone across directories. Conflicting data makes the model less confident naming you.
- Structured data on your site. LocalBusiness and Service schema make you machine-readable.
- Presence in local "best of" roundups and the review platforms assistants cite when they browse.
For the full playbook, work through our AI visibility checklist for local businesses, which covers each of these signals step by step.
What to do with your result
If the assistants name you: good, now protect it. Answers shift with every model update, so the businesses that stay recommended are the ones that keep their signals fresh and notice drops early. If the assistants do not name you, your scan shows exactly who they name instead and a prioritized plan to close the gap. Either way you will know where you stand on the surface your customers are already using, and you can see who currently wins these answers in your city on our live AI recommendation leaderboards.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check if ChatGPT recommends my business?+
Enter your business name, category, and city in the checker above. It asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity the questions your customers actually ask, then shows whether each assistant names your business, how it describes you, and which competitors it names instead. It takes about 30 seconds and requires no signup.
Why doesn't ChatGPT mention my business?+
Usually because the sources the model trusts don't cover you well enough: an incomplete Google Business Profile, thin or stale reviews, inconsistent name and address information across directories, no structured data on your site, or absence from the local best-of lists assistants draw on. Being a great business is not enough if the model can't see the evidence.
Can I pay ChatGPT or OpenAI to recommend my business?+
No. AI assistant recommendations are not ads and there is no placement to buy. Assistants name businesses based on the signals in their training data and the live sources they read. The only way in is to strengthen those signals, your profiles, reviews, citations, and coverage.
Does asking ChatGPT myself give the same answer as this checker?+
Not reliably. If you ask from your own account, your chat history and location context can prime the model toward you. This checker asks unprimed, the way a stranger in your city would, and it asks multiple assistants and multiple question phrasings, so you see the answer your actual customers see.
How often do AI answers change?+
Constantly. Model updates, new reviews, and fresh local coverage all shift the shortlist. A business that is named today can drop out after a model refresh. That is why serious operators monitor their AI visibility over time instead of checking once.
